The New TV Season
Let’s see. Not a whole lot of promise thus far. Fox is still dead to me for canceling T:SCC, on top of all of its prior kill-happy choices. FlashForward on ABC seems pretty good, if a little by-the-numbers… they should have bloc-programmed it with Lost, though. I tried watching the Good Wife and NCIS:LA on CBS just to be fair and open-minded, and regretted it instantly. I’m not a fan of Jay Leno, which means that about a quarter of NBC’s lineup will never be seen by me. I am, however, a fan of NBC’s Community, both because of the subject (I cannot imagine higher education being ripe for parody) and the cast. In addition to Joel McHale, who is rapier-sharp on The Soup (and who is wisely continuing his day job there), the cast is a nice ensemble (the first episode made the comedic connection to the Breakfast Club, which was much appreciated). I’m especially enjoying the faculty guest stars, who do an excellent job straddling the line between realistic types and insanity (a better job than some I’ve seen in real life, actually). I hope NBC gives it time to breathe, as I think it will be able to develop an Office-like following.
