Perqs of LA
I unexpectedly scored a ticket to the “Return of the Cylons: Caprica Season 1.5 Premiere Fan Event” last night at Universal Studios. Really nice event with great people, and except for some minor tech glitches (met with good humor by the participants) went really well. It was a nice reminder of how cool it is to live in LA.
Without giving away too many spoilers, the episode seemed to signal the “end of the beginning” of the series, as a lot of the chess pieces they had been moving all season seemed to have gotten in position to begin the “real” game. Afterward, I got Jane Espenson’s autograph and got to rub elbows with other BatGat notables. Foolishly, I left my “recording device” in the car (per the ticket instructions) as everyone around me got pics with Ron Moore and the rest of the gang.
The visit also highlighted the degree to which marketers have latched onto Twitter and Facebook for niche promotion. I’ve seen very little other promotion of the series through traditional advertising so far, so this event was an interesting experiment. Anyway, here’s to hoping that the show scores large ratings: if it and/or SGU get cancelled, SyFy will officially be dead to me, as my tolerance for monster-of-the-week schlock and (bizarrely) pro wrestling programming is dangerously low.
